Starting and finishing at a sports complex, this loop course takes a tour through Addis Ababa, passing both commercial and residential areas along a rolling route. Volunteers will support participants at three aid stations, and local police assigned to the course will provide direction and cheer on participants. 

Marathon Information

The Ethiopian Marathon will be a unique world-class event with a personal touch. Race features include all the amenities that experienced marathoners have come to expect, and more:

• 8-hour time limit
• Chip-timing
• Bag check
• Aid stations every 5K offering water, sports drink, sports gels, and snacks
• Emergency medical care available on the course
• Restrooms  on the course
• Markers  at every mile and every 5K split
• Music and cheer stations
• Race marshals along the course to help direct runners and traffic
• Race shirts to all participants and a unique medal to all finishers
• Post-race festival with food and entertainment
• Post-race awards banquet and celebration for all participants and guests

In the 1960 Rome Olympic Games, Abebe Bikila amazed the world when he won the Olympic Marathon running barefoot – the only runner to have ever accomplished this. Four years later,Bikila become the first person in Olympic history to win successive marathons when he won the gold medal in Tokyo. An amazing athlete, an Ethiopian hero.
