WHO WE ARE:
RACE4EVER is a registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization whose aim is to address the problem of mentally and physically challenged poverty-stricken Ethiopian youth. We partner with other not for profit Ethiopian organizations to increase awareness of the problems faced by Ethiopian orphans, specifically those affected by HIV/AIDS, mentally and physically challenged poverty stricken children, and to help provide much needed support to these children. This is a different kind of race;we don't offer prize money, and we don’t aim for record-breaking performances. We walk and run to make a difference in the lives of poverty stricken Ethiopian youth. We aim to introduce participants to Ethiopia’s exceptional culture and history, while making a difference in the lives of poverty stricken youth. The event will be held here in Washington DC and In Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Participants have an option of signing for one or both events. Participants who signed for the race in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia will travel to the homeland of some of the greatest marathoners in history, where they will race past many of Ethiopia’s historic sights. During their visit, race participants will also have an opportunity to personally connect with the youth who will be benefiting from their participation. Profits from the event go to helping Ethiopian orphans. The race is managed by Jeff Horowitz, an experienced runner, coach and author who participated in over 170 marathons and ultramarathons, across the U.S.A and around the world. The race in Addis Ababa will be one of the highest altitude road races in the world, starting at 8,512 feet (2,594.5 meters ) and peaking at 9,300 feet (2834 meters) for the marathon and half-marathon. The marathon will begin in the town of Chancho, at 8,512 feet of elevation. The first mile will be downhill, followed by a gradual uphill for the next mile and a quarter, as runners pass the towns of Wareerso at mile 4.5, and Sululta at mile 8.5. There will be gently rolling hills through mile 12 as runners pass spectacular views of Ethiopian plains on their right and the En Toto mountains on their left. At mile 12 runners begin a steeper climb, gaining 640 feet over the next 6 miles. At mile 17 runners approach En Toto Natural Park on their left, and will have beautiful panoramic views of Addis Ababa to their right over the next three winding miles.
The Ethiopian Marathon will be a unique world-class event with a personal touch. Race features include all the amenities that experienced marathoners have come to expect, and more:
To provide financial assistance to reputable and striving Non-Profit Organizations whose primary occupation is devoted to developing a better future for poverty-stricken...
